January 30, 2012
Prime Minister Harper,
We are writing to express our profound disgust with certain actions taken by your government, which constitutes an affront to our Parliament and by logical extension, the citizens of Canada.
Under your leadership, Canada’s 40th Parliament was a sordid affair that saw a succession of Cabinet members engaged in the willful distortion of fact, alteration of documents, and the redirection of moneys appropriated from Parliament through fraudulent means.
Yours has been a government of firsts. The Minister for International Co-operation, Bev Oda, became the first Minister of Canada’s Parliament to willfully mislead the House and participate in the forgery of public documents belonging to the Crown.
Your government became the first in Canada’s history to be found “in contempt of Parliament”, after a thorough investigation conducted by Canada’s longest serving Speaker of the House, Peter Millikin.
Defence Minister Peter MacKay has issued statements about his personal use of government aircraft, which are blatantly contradicted by official documentation provided by the Canadian Armed Forces.
Treasury Board President Tony Clement has clearly abused his position, as it relates to the distribution of moneys fraudulently appropriated from the Border Infrastructure Fund. Multi millions of Canadian tax payer dollars were redirected to his constituency riding, circumventing due diligence and required documentation.
Such actions would constitute a criminal conspiracy and we demand that Minister Clement be fired and investigated forthwith.
During the latter part of 2011, the Conservative Party of Canada initiated a campaign in the riding of Liberal member Irwin Cotler. Constituents were contacted and informed the honourable member was resigning. This was a willful misrepresentation of the truth and was intended to impune the efficacy of this member.
Current Conservative Speaker of the House, Andrew Scheer, ruled your government’s actions were “reprehensible” in regard to this matter.
Recently your House Leader Peter Van Loan rose in the Commons to defend these acts of lying and misinformation as an expression of free speech that must be protected. As House Leader he clearly speaks for your government and we condemn this assertion emphatically.
Mr. Prime Minister, we say to you in no uncertain terms, the behaviour of your government from its inception has been a disgrace to the institution it was elected to defend.
The continued presence of the Ministers named in this document is an affront to Parliament and the citizens of the country as a whole.
We demand the immediate termination of Bev Oda, Tony Clement, Peter MacKay and Peter Van Loan from any position representative of the Nation of Canada and her people.
Prime Minister Harper, you have been quick to invoke patriotism as a gimmick to manipulate public perceptions and your warnings of “foreign influences” serve the same master.
Allow us to close on this point. Cursory research would suggest you are the least traveled Prime Minister prior to election, including Sir John A. Macdonald. Clearly in your case, proximity does not equate to an intimate understanding of what constitutes Canadian values as none in history have demonstrated your contempt and animus for this Nation, her conventions and institutions.
We demand your government conduct itself with the integrity, honesty and dignity warranted and deserved by the citizens of Canada and reject your contention that willful misrepresentation of facts could ever lend itself to freedom or good governance. We further await your response.
Resolutely,
Mr. Mike Darnell Ms. Amy MacPherson
